Microcredit: what it is, and what it is not

Microcredit is neither an instant loan nor a miracle cure. A closer look.

Microcredit is for people often shut out of traditional bank lending, for an inclusion project: transport, training, work equipment, a documented hardship.

It is not:

  • a loan without documents;
  • guaranteed financing;
  • a way to cover other debts without a review.

Support from a charity or social worker often improves both the project and the repayment record.
